Location: Stern Great Room - Stern Center - Dickinson College
The presentation will begin with a viewing of the painting “Guernica” by Pablo Picasso at 6:30 pm followed by the showing of the Netflix film The Siege of Jadotville at 7:00 pm. There will be a panel discussion at the conclusion of the film. The film The Siege of Jadotville (based on a true story) is a depiction of the experiences of “A” Company, 35th Battalion, Irish Army, led by Commandant Pat Quinlan and consisting of 150 young and inexperienced soldiers that were called to serve as a United Nations Peacekeeping force in 1961 in the Katanga Province of the newly established Republic of Congo.
Panelists Chaplain Wollom Jensen, D.Arts, Commandant Leo Quinlan (son of Commandant Patrick Quinlan), COL (Ret) Lawanda Holliman, and Chaplain John Sippola, M.Div. will lead us in a discussion regarding the nature of moral injury, the causes and effects of moral injury, and some of the ongoing issues faced by the families and friends of those Irish soldiers who were part of “A” Company as well as US servicemen and women who served in the longest war in US history (Afghanistan and Iraq).
